Homecare: How to Select an Agency

The availability of services in a given area, cost and insurance coverage are factors that must be considered.  When coordinating home health care services including home health aides, physical therapy, meals etc. , you may have to apply for more than one form of financial assistance.

Many community-based services remain local with a variety of not-for-profit or volunteer agencies in some areas.  Not all communities may be able to provide the help needed in individual cases.  An elder no longer safe at home alone or incapable of supervising service workers may be at risk and require careful planning to access a variety of community services needed..  Choosing a home health care agency is difficulty because the circumstances of paetients needing care at home vary greatly.

The State Department of Aging  and The Deparment of Social Services with offices in each county around New York State can direct you to many of the services an individual or family might need, including volunteer and not-for-profit programs offering a range of services from Meals on Wheels, assistance with shopping, housekeeping, friendly visiting, visits to doctors and other activities
