HCFA SURVEY UNCOVERS VIOLATIONS

United Presbyterian Home, a nursing home in Woodbury New York, was recently slapped with a 138 page deficiency report citing many serious and widespread regulatory violations at the home.  This report was issued by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), the federal agency that administers Medicaid and Medicare.

A few months earlier the New York State Department of Health had found a small number of deficiencies in its regular survey.  HCFA followed with its own "comparative survey" as part of its federal oversight of  the Department of Health.  There will be three comparative surveys in New York each year.

HCFA?s survey results support consumer claims that DOH is unduly lax in monitoring nursing homes.  FRIA and other consumer advocates, through the Nursing Home Community Coalition, will continue to press HCFA to tighten oversight of New York?s survey process.
