Many
nursing homes fail to post Department of Health inspection reports
which show whether the home is complying with Federal and State
regulations, according to a new report by Mark Green’s Office of
the Public Advocate.
Nursing Home Safety: The Hidden Report Card found that a nursing
home was less likely to post its report or make it easily available,
if the home had been cited for violating regulations.
The Department of Health inspects - or surveys - each nursing facility
every 12-15 months to determine if the home is following regulations,
and writes a report, including any deficiencies" found.
The report also includes the "plan of correction" that the facility
must adopt to get back in compliance. Regulations require that nursing
homes post these reports, (along

FRIA connected Public Advocate staff to hotline callers. Many interviewed
were unaware of the survey reports. Others could not find them when
they looked or had trouble obtaining them when they asked.
